Lekki Garden (makeitnigeria)

The victims, Mr. Kennedy Ucheagwu, Dr. Omololu, Bello and Mr. Esang, said to be landlords at Oshorun Heritage Estate, had gone for an aerobic section, Saturday, when eight masked gunmen in military camouflage intercepted them, shooting sporadically.

One of the relatives of the abducted men, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Vanguard yesterday: “I got a call very early yesterday, where the unknown caller informed that he was one of the kidnappers that took our people away on Saturday. “He warned that in our interest and for the safety of the victims, we should not contact the police or try to play smart. “He said anything of such would lead to the death of our people. He did not allow me to speak with my person, as he claimed that he was sleeping.

“He said that we should get N1.2 billion before they would be released. He also told me to meet with relatives of the other people. He called back about four hours later to find out if the money was ready. “He also asked if I had my own N300 million for the release my relation. I begged him to accept N200,000, as that was the only money we could afford, except he wants us to go and start borrowing or sell our property (Vanguard).

22. Then the kidnap of one Chief Samuel Iheanachor
This kidnap story was interesting as it was traced to a Nigerian Military man, Lance Corporal Abdul Yusuf of 2nd Brigade.

“The Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Command, on October 10, received a complaint of the kidnap of one Chief Samuel Iheanachor by six men along Aba-Oyibgo Road, while he was driving his Toyota Highlander. “Lance Corporal Abdul Yusuf of 2nd Brigade was arrested driving the SUV on Aba Road. With him was another man, both wearing Army uniforms.

“Lance Corporal Abdul Yusuf of 2nd Brigade was arrested driving the SUV on Aba Road. With him was another man, both wearing Army uniforms. “On interrogation, they confessed to the crime and led the operatives to Asarama in Andoni Local Government Area where the victim was rescued and others arrested (Vanguard).

As to be expected, an estimated 80 percentage of kidnappings are high-profile because people of power and wealth are the main targets thus usually gain media attention. There probably exists hundreds of other cases concerning people with no political affiliations whose families either paid the exorbitant ransoms demanded and quietly crept back into their homes or got the dead bodies (or raped) loved ones returned back to them and the abductors never caught.

The perpetrators who kidnapped the CBN governor’s wife, and Mikel Obi’s father were caught but were they caught because of the powerful families affected or because every Nigerian life is the same to the Nigerian police force?

Either way, I wish this deadly menace called Kidnapping will end! We are so much better than this!
