I mean, is it like a rite of passage in the whole pregnancy ordeal? Do people do it because they do not have a choice? Is there a pressure to put one out and also see how good you look while pregnant? Or is it just to celebrate being pregnant and proud? It is alright if you are on the beach or by the pool but we all know it is not for the love of swimming that we see these bumps.
I do not know why it is done but I think overseas, it might just be the celebrities that do it (because they can and Oh, most of them get paid by Magazines to do it. So, why do we share ours free of charge?). I have seen about 2 – 3 of my colleagues pregnant. They have shared many pictures on facebook, they will even share their due dates, baby gender with you (which Nigerians would never do, for reasons that still beats me) but I have never seen their bumps displayed anywhere. I am only making a reference to them, after all we copied from them.
Demi Moore, way back in 1991 caused a huge controversy when she bared her bump.
Today, it has become so celebrated/expected, if you do not do it, it feels like you are weird.

I am all about acceptance but I think some things truly still belong behind closed doors, and that not all of the 19th – 20th century values are invalid.
What do you think, please?

  1. Initially I thought it was pregnancy excitement but on a second thought I say to myself maybe most of them neva believed that after living a rough life they would conceive and so they are like "make the world see o, even after going rogue, I could conceive o". LOL but seriously why doing it free of charge? Well Na dem sabi
